Description

I would watch GuruMaa perform the rituals of a puja intently and would thoroughly get lost in it. GuruMaa would chant ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and perform the rituals of cleaning the black stoned Shiva lingam, and then use sandal wood paste to draw Shaivite symbols on it. That picture remained in my sub conscious mind, and after years drew a doodle with the design used for this painting.

The eternal truth represents the holy act of creation, the unity of shiv lingam and the yoni. If the truth leads to holy acts, we get purity represented by the three white bands (3 gunas) and the lotus flower with its 23 orange (courage) and green (harmony) petals (or number 5 for the five elements). If it is tamsik or evil then it leads to darkness, represented by the black bands on the top half.
