Description

Nayanmitra presents the next work using fluid acrylics, 16 by 16 inches on canvas board, titled, The Shiva-Shakti Bindu.

Shiva and Shakti are undifferentiated unity. They cannot be separated; one cannot exist without the other. We look at them as being two separated concepts, but they are inseparable.

Everything that exists can be reduced to two concepts: consciousness and manifestations. Manifestations are dependent on consciousness, and the other way around. In the Vedic philosophy, consciousness is called Shiva, and manifestation, which is also seen as power, is called Shakti.

Bindu, what means ‘point’ is an all-encompassing point that in its unmanifested state is called Maha Bindu or Para Bindu. Para Bindu or Maha Bindu contains the unified Shiva and Shakti. It is also called Para Brahman or Param Atma. The term Bindu is often used when one talks about all of creation flowing forth from it

In this work, I have leveraged the lines formed by the fluid acrylic pour to represent the Shiva and Shakti in and around the Bindu.

Thanks to Sushma Thota for her comments which influenced the completion of this work!
